In 2019, Ottawa County Parks & Recreation Department completed the acquisition of the 345-acre Ottawa Sands County Park. This acquisition persevered a piece of land which is critical because of its location at the intersection of the Grand River and Lake Michigan as well as its sensitive sand dunes, Grand River shoreline, land altered through mining operations, and critical wildlife habitats.

In addition to preserving the critical wildlife habitats, Ottawa Sands is not accessible to all who may wish to visit and experience its beauty.

In order to address the equitable access and ecological health needs, the Parks Commission is pursuing a $15.1 million improvement project. With assistance from the Ottawa County Parks Foundation, the Ottawa County Parks & Recreation Department has already secured over half the funds needed to complete this work.

Join us in preserving Ottawa Sands and making it accessible for all to enjoy its tranquility!
