The Ottawa County Parks Foundation Board of Directors voted in 2022 to support Ottawa County Parks programs. This year we are expanding our support to Health and Wellness programs in Ottawa County Parks. This includes general Health and Wellness programs, as well as Step it Up! and the Grand Explorers’ Trail Race.

Step It up! is a free program designed to help residents of all fitness levels stay active and explore new parks.  Participants are encouraged to join an OC Parks leader on eight (8) weekly walks and other group activities in the spring to get/stay healthy!  In 2023, 723 participants enrolled in Step it Up! and were supported by weekly e-mail newsletters providing encouragement and tips on healthy eating from Ottawa Foods and on other activities to improve health and wellness. Step It Up! runs April 30 to June 20.

The Grand River Explorers’ Trail race is in its second year. The first year had over 300 racers that participated in either the 5k, 10k, or 1k kids’ fun run. The course starts at Grand River County Park winding through a natural surface trail to the newly completed Idema Explorers Trail segment that leads you along the Grand River to Grand Ravines Park. As you enter Grand Ravines, you will see an old covered bridge and go up a small incline to a spectacular view of the river. This year’s race will be June 22.
