For Amber and her family, the Ottawa County Parks Scavenger Hunt became more than a game it was an opportunity to spend time outdoors together and explore local parks.
After receiving the monthly clue email, Amber debated whether to head out and search for the hidden token. “A good high school friend was married at Pine Bend, so after the third clue I knew it was that park,” she said. A StoryWalk® event at the park made the decision easy.
“We were doing the StoryWalk while looking for the token at the same time,” Amber said.
The scavenger hunt has inspired Amber’s family to visit parks more often. They made a point to head to Paw Paw Park on the first day the January clue was released and appreciated that each hunt continues even after the token is found.
“I love that there’s a QR code after the token is found,” Amber said. “It’s still an encouragement to get out there and look.”
One of Amber’s favorite aspects of the scavenger hunt is how it encourages people to explore parks they may not have visited before. “It’s a fun way to get people outside,” she said.
The prize money is already helping create more family adventures. Amber’s family purchased season passes to Michigan’s Adventure and has already visited twice.
