For nearly 30 years, Ottawa County has been growing a county park system which is becoming one of the finest in Michigan. Our parks benefit from an excellent staff, a dedicated millage, and a committed Friends group providing eager volunteers.
The missing piece is a way for citizens to support special projects outside of the normal operating budget – a way to add a margin of excellence to our outdoor spaces and bridge the gap between the community and nature.
We know this:
- Access to the outdoors and nature is essential to our health and happiness.
- We live in a place where public green space is available to nearly everyone.
- Our investment in parks has repaid itself many times over, not just in tourism dollars, but in an improved quality of life, making Ottawa County a desirable place to call home.
The Ottawa County Parks Foundation’s goal is connect supporters with opportunities to make our parks even better. Your gift to the Ottawa County Parks Foundation will help turn these dreams into reality. Instead of “Wouldn’t it be great…”, we can proudly say “Isn’t it great!” Together we can make things happen.
Bea Idema funds the Grand Ravines Suspension Bridge
Property purchased from Bea’s family made it possible to create the spectacular Grand Ravines County Park, on the high banks of the Grand River. The family pitched in to fund a dramatic overlook on one of the deep ravines, but Bea wanted to do more.
The result: the spectacular new pedestrian suspension bridge connecting the north and south parts of the park.
Thank you for your support of the Ottawa County Parks Foundation in its first year!
